Description:
The Anaheim Regional Transporation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) stands as a premier transportation hub, drawing inspiration from the grandeur of historic rail stations while embodying Orange County's commitment to a sustainable, transit-centric future. Designed to meet the transportation needs of over three million people across 34 cities and cater to the 40 million annual visitors to Orange County, with 20 million heading to Anaheim alone due to attractions like the Disneyland Resort, major sports venues, and a convention center. Beyond seamlessly connecting the region's rail, bus, taxi, and roadway systems, along with accommodating bicycle and pedestrian pathways, ARTIC serves as the anchor for the Anaheim Rapid Connection (ARC). This new streetcar system is currently in the approval process and marks the southern terminus for California's forthcoming high-speed rail line, linking the state's burgeoning urban centers.

Featuring retail outlets, restaurants, and a spacious main hall, ARTIC is poised to become not just a transportation hub but also a community hotspot and versatile event venue. Through the improvement of local and regional transit alternatives, ARTIC aims to catalyze forthcoming development within Anaheim's Platinum Triangle—a mixed-use district earmarked for extensive new office, commercial, and residential construction. The economic boost from development-related revenue, forged through public/private partnerships, job expansion, an augmented tax base, and various other sources, is anticipated to fortify the region's economic landscape.

Objective:
Anaheim aspired to establish a transportation hub that would stand as an emblem of public transit. The objective was to inspire the three million residents of Orange County and the 50 million annual visitors to shift their perspective from reliance on automobiles toward a future characterized by intelligent and sustainable travel. Enter the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC), a cutting-edge terminal designed to accommodate rail, bus, and auto passengers, as well as cyclists and pedestrians across Southern California. The innovative parabolic design features diamond-shaped steel arches filled with translucent ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene), resulting in a majestic, light-filled atrium reminiscent of the grand passenger terminals from the early 20th century.
